A high-level delegation from JIPMER, Karaikal, led by Dean Dr. Sunil K. Narayan, visited the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute (PAJANCOA), Karaikal, on April 27, 2026, for an exploratory inter-institutional meeting aimed at fostering academic and research collaboration.

The delegation included Dr. Divyashanthi CM (Associate Professor, Pharmacology & Officiating Registrar), Dr. Kumaran (Associate Professor, Forensic Medicine & OIC Estate section), Dr. Subash P  (Associate Professor, Biochemistry), and CPWD Engineer Er. Sasikumar

Visit Highlights

  • Welcomed by Dean Dr. Shankar, PAJANCOA; followed by departmental introductions from Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, Horticulture, Entomology, Plant Breeding, and Agricultural Extension.
  • Wide-ranging scientific discussions covering phytochemistry, food safety, pesticide residues in crops and honey, tissue culture, soil nutrition, and sustainable farming practices.
  • Field visit to paddy and experimental crop plots; students demonstrated vermicomposting and crop cultivation practicals.
  • Laboratory visits to Cytogenetics, Plant Tissue Culture, and Molecular Pathology labs – featuring DNA fingerprinting, PCR, and microtome demonstrations.
  • JIPMER Dean shared ongoing ICMR-funded research in Ayurvedic stroke rehabilitation, preclinical studies through AYUSH, and phytochemical investigation of medicinal plants.

Both institutions have expressed strong mutual interest in formalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focusing on collaborative research in molecular biology, phytochemistry, nutrition science, and sustainable agriculture. Dr. Divyashanthi CM and Dr. Subash P  have been designated as point of contact from JIPMER’s side.

As noted at the meeting, “Collaboration is the soil of creativity” – a sentiment that encapsulates the spirit of this visit and the promising partnership ahead.
