JIPMER Karaikal Extends Services through Collaboration with Rural Health Centre, T.R. Pattinam
Karaikal, October 2, 2025 – On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, JIPMER Karaikal expanded its community health services by formally collaborating with the Rural Health Centre (RHC), T.R. Pattinam, to strengthen preventive, promotive, and primary healthcare services in Karaikal district.
The event was held as per the direction of the District Collector, who had requested that the services commence on Gandhi Jayanti. The Director of JIPMER, Dr. Vir Singh Negi, had encouraged this initiative and fully supported it. The program was graced by Honourable MLA Shri M. Nagathiyagarajan.
Dean Dr. Kusa Kumar Shaha felicitated the guest and reiterated JIPMER Karaikal’s commitment to extending community services to rural populations.
In his welcome address, Dr. Karthik Balajee L., Officer-in-Charge, Department of Community Medicine, JIPMER Karaikal, highlighted that many patients often present late in the course of illness. He emphasised the need for community awareness, early screening, and timely detection of diseases, stressing the importance of outreach activities such as health camps and house-to-house surveys for effective prevention and care.
Hon’ble MLA Nagathiyagarajan urged the community to avoid self-treatment, make full use of available services, and welcomed JIPMER’s expanded role in rural health.
The event was attended by Dr. R. Sivarajakumar (Deputy Director of Immunization, Karaikal), Dr. Divyashanthi (Registrar, JIPMER Karaikal), and Dr. Arul Kumar (Sub-Dean, JIPMER Karaikal). Active participation came from Dr. Avinash Kumar (Faculty, Community Medicine), Dr. Bitty (Senior Resident, Community Medicine) and interns of JIPMER Karaikal.
Program arrangements were made by Dr. Uma Maheshwari (Medical Officer, RHC T.R. Pattinam), and RHC staff in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine, JIPMER Karaikal. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Avinash Kumar.
