In observance of World Health Day 2026, the Department of Orthopaedics at JIPMER Karaikal along with Swachhata Pakhwada programme organized a comprehensive Osteoporosis Screening Camp within the campus to promote awareness about bone health.
The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff and their relatives. Screening assessments revealed an unexpected and concerning trend—early signs of reduced bone density were identified in a significant number of middle-aged individuals.
This finding highlights a silent but emerging public health concern linked to sedentary lifestyles, nutritional deficiencies, and lack of preventive care.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sunil.K.Narayan, Dean emphasized:
“Osteoporosis is no longer a condition confined to the elderly—it is increasingly being seen in younger, active individuals.
Dr N.Arulkumar Incharge, Dept of Orthopedics added: It is high time we shift our focus toward preventive bone health especially among working professionals who are at hidden risk due to poor life style and diet habits.”
