Report on the Conduct of Simulation-based Hands-on Training Program on Compression Only Life Support (COLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) in Celebration of

World Anaesthesia Day

Program Overview:

The Department of Anaesthesiology at JIPMER Karaikal organised the Simulation-based Hands-on training program on COLS & BLS from the 16th to 18th, 22nd, 23rd of October & 5th of November 2024, Karaikal.  

Program Organizers:

The event was conducted under the esteemed leadership of our Director, Dr Rakesh Aggarwal, & Dean of the Karaikal campus, Dr Kusa Kumar Shaha, who provided invaluable guidance and support throughout the planning and execution stages.

Programme Details:

To continue training and promoting awareness about the significance of life support skills within the community, COLS and BLS were conducted. Each session was conducted for 3 hours, which included a pretest, hands-on training and assessment at the end with a post-test and skill test.

COLS was conducted for 60 Housekeeping Staff and 9 Security personnel on October 16 and 17 in three sessions. On October 18, held two sessions for 37 faculties and nursing officers on BLS. Additionally, provided COLS training for 39 teachers from Thanthai Periyar Higher Secondary School on October 22 and 23, emphasizing practical skills and life-saving techniques for their environments. On November 5, 13 administrative staff trained for COLS. Totally 158 participants were trained, out of which 121 trained for COLS and 37 for BLS.

 

Conclusion:

On November 5th, the Training program ended with the certificate distribution program conducted in JIPMER, Karaikal. The 1st training program on compression-only life support and basic life support was a resounding success, thanks to the collective efforts of all involved. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Director, Dean, Associate dean, faculties, nursing staff, housekeeping staff, security and teachers for their enthusiastic participation and contributions to making this event a memorable and enriching experience.
