Department of Physiology

General Info:

Human Physiology is a branch of medicine that focuses on comprehending the functions of the human body at molecular, cellular, tissue, and systems levels of organisation. The Department of Physiology has a well–equipped Hematology laboratory and a Clinical Physiology lab with essential equipment. The biomedical equipment presently available in the laboratory includes ECG apparatus, computerized PFT apparatus and three-channel physiographs, amongst others. We are in the process of acquiring state-of-the-art equipment, which will make quality research possible for faculty members and students.

Plans for the future:

It is our hope that in the near future, our infrastructure will be improved to such a degree that it will become possible to start PG courses in Physiology.

Academic

Education being the core pillar of the department, we offer exceptional undergraduate programs, providing students with comprehensive knowledge of physiological principles and their clinical applications.  Our teaching methods consist of various approaches, such as didactic lectures, small group discussions, problem-based learning, tutorials, quiz programs, and student seminars. Additionally, we organize clinical case discussions to help students connect their basic Physiology knowledge with real-life medical scenarios. This approach enables an in-depth understanding of the subject and encourages a holistic approach to medicine. Integrated teaching is often practised regularly to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the physiological underpinnings of diseases and therapeutic interventions to bridge the gap between basic science and medical practice. The student’s performance is evaluated periodically through notified tests and continually by formative assessment. This approach allows us to address their needs on time, ensuring that every student receives the necessary assistance to succeed academically.
