General Info:

The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at JIPMER, Karaikal was established in the year March 2022. The department is driven by the mission to provide state of the art, affordable healthcare to all women beyond barriers and to excel in medical education and clinical exposures to undergraduate students. The department offers comprehensive clinical classes at maternity hospital, GH Karaikal and provides compassionate patient care services by organizing special clinics like Infertility, postnatal and family welfare clinics, cancer screening clinics, high risk pregnancy and well woman clinic services.

The department also actively participates in providing community health services in rural areas of Karaikal district. Besides, a part of commitment towards the National Family Planning program, the department offers all the modalities of reversible and permanent methods of contraception at GH Karaikal.

MBBS

The department dynamically involved in teaching and training of undergraduate medical students in conducting innovative and interactive teaching learning sessions in the form of students seminars, integrated teaching, bedside teaching, tutorials, simulation, skill training using various models to engage students actively and to make the students competency based learners.

The department encourage the students to participate in poster preparation, Quiz competition  and health talks as a part of Dept. co-curricular activities such as Gynecological cancer awareness month, menstrual hygiene programs etc.,

The department faculties are encouraged to attend conferences, present papers, CMEs, webinars and panel discussions.

The department is involved in conducting quality research activities in collaboration with other Departments. The Dept. faculty is involved as PI or Co-PI in many research projects. Undergraduate students are encouraged to do Short Term ICMR Research Studentship (STS) projects.

• Developing a prediction Model for correcting Intracellular Biochemical Analysis in Hemolyzed Samples of Newborns based on Free plasma Hemoglobin.
• Knowledge and perception about ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in pregnant women
• Cervical cancer and PAP smear awareness among rural women in Karaikal region.
